Para Kay Kiko (PKK) volunteers gathered together in the recently conducted PKK Orientation and Training Workshop (OTW) held in the Fr. Louis Papilla Formation Center in the Early Education Department (EED) on March 16-17.

_mg_9448.jpgThe activity gave the volunteers a better grasp on what it is to be a PKK volunteer. It allowed for open discussions and sharing of teaching techniques and classroom management. This also served as the venue for the PKK volunteers to bond and plan for the coming month of May.

To facilitate the materialization of these goals, talks and games were held by Xavier teachers to give the student volunteers how to be an efficient teacher.

_mg_0279.jpgIt started with a talk on Classroom Management by Mr. Palan Reyes, followed by a talk on Classroom Dynamics taken up by Mr. Kenneth Gan, and then Mr. Exxon Yu gave a talk on Student-Teacher Relationships and Cura Personalis. Finally, Mr. Jake Aragon delivered the last talk, focusing on the commitment to serve in PKK, ending the first day of the PKK OTW.

In order to hone the newly learned skills, a demo-teaching was conducted where each student was given a chance to teach in front of his fellow department members, with his department members acting as the “extreme cases” that could happen to a volunteer.

At the end, Fr. Guy Guibelondo and the PKK volunteers celebrated a thanksgiving Mass. They prayed for a successful PKK this summer.

This activity would not have been possible without the untiring support of the PKK Moderator, Mr. Monico Cabanos, together with the two other members of the HS Campus Ministry and Service Office (HS CMSO) namely, Mr. Holden Angeles and Mr. JP Barias.

PKK has been running for the past 20 years. It is a summer activity for student volunteers who will serve as teachers of the PKK students that comprise the top 15 students of the public schools located in San Juan. The principal for PKK Summer 2010 is Thomas Rosal (H3C) and Assistant Principal for Formation is Miles Ong (H3G).
