Xavier Bowlers Start Hot, T. Hung Wins Youth Monthly Championship

This is what the coach meant by starting the year right.Timothy Hung showed no rust from the Christmas break, starting 2010 by winning the Manila Tenpin Bowling Association (MTBA) Youth Monthly Championship last January 31 at the Bowling Inn along Taft Avenue.

Hung bowled an impressive 6 game series, bowling lines of 207, 206, 233, 274, 217 and 257 to place second after the preliminary round. Facing third seed Alfred Arreza, Timothy squeaked by with a 188 to 183 victory to earn the right to face top seed and former national team player Louie Chuaquico in the finals. In the finals, the Junior regained his fiery form, defeating Chuaquico 249 to 180 to take the first monthly championship of the year.

Markyn Kho and Kirk Dychiao also played and made good accounts for themselves with Kho placing a close fifth. It’s the best way to start the year,” beamed Coach Sharwin Tee (’96). “Obviously, the boys’ sacrifice of playing even during the Christmas break really paid off.”

With the victory coming on the heels of another successful Xavier Charity Bowl, the bowling team is on quite a roll and hoping to carry that to the 1st Philippine Bowling Congress Youth Bi-Monthly Championships in February.
