Xaverian Appointed New Commissioner

During the 3 August 2007 opening of the new Accenture office in Cebu City at the Cebu Business Park, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo announced the appointment of Ray Anthony Roxas-Chua III as the new Commission on Information and Communication Technology (CICT) chairman. “I have already signed the appointment,” said President Arroyo.

Roxas-Chua used to be an executive of Citibank in the San Francisco Bay Area in California. A magna cum laude graduate of Computer Science at Wharton University, Roxas-Chua hails from Samar and is the grandson of sugarcane magnate, Antonio Roxas Chua. He specializes in investment banking and had the rank of a Vice-President when he left Citibank.

President Arroyo said that Chua’s background in Computer Science and Finance will be beneficial to the CICT. The post had been vacant for more than three months already. The incoming CICT chief is also currently a member of the council of representatives for the National Capital Region of the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Roxas-Chua is a member of Batch 1993. As a student, he was a consistent academic awardee and was very active in various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities like being the News Editor of the Stallion and a member of the Military Police (MP) for CAT-I.The Xavier community is behind Roxas-Chua all the way and believes his youthful exuberance will enable him to bring greater efficiency to government bureaucracy through IT.
