Congratulations to Ivan Guerrero (1998) for his win – an Emmy award plaque for a documentary “Plight of the Peregrines,” featuring the story of the Purdue University Calumet Peregrines — a struggling university basketball team trying to make a comeback. The plaque reads: National Academy Of Television Arts And Sciences Chicago/Midwest Chapter honors Purdue University Calumet-Plight of the Peregrines, Winner of the College Student Production, Sports Category 2008-2009.
The award mirrors the creativity that Guerrero shows in his other works that have caught the attention of the US Entertainment press, film critics, and bloggers. A press release states: “Youtube videos called premakes have recently caused a sensation in the online community. A term coined by Guerrero, premakes are mock trailers edited together from movies of the 1940’s and 1950’s to look like an interpretation or re-imagining of a modern film. “For instance, what would the film Forrest Gump, or Ghostbusters look like if it were shot in the ‘40’s?” There’s no need to wonder anymore because Guerrero asked the question, produced the trailer and showed how it could have been. Guerrero’s premakes have been called “incredible” by the New York Times, and have also made it to Entertainment Weekly’s Top 10 “Must-List”, where it joins the ranks of popular US shows such as Dexter and Desperate Housewives.
Guerrero earned his MA from UA&P, and continued his studies in the U.S. and hopes to graduate from Purdue University with B.A. in Broadcasting this December. While in the Philippines, he was with McCann Erickson as Art Director.
Guerrero says that he seeks “to further develop my technique across other mediums. My eagerness to learn keeps me eternally hungry for creative challenges.” Ivan Guerrero is the eldest son of Dr. Maribel Guerrerro, former head of the XS Health Services.
