XS Survivors Rebuild Through XShop Home

Even as donations of home appliances and furnishings continue to come in (collection until Oct. 15, Thu),  members of the XS community affected by Ondoy have already started acquiring badly needed items at the XShop. For token prices, our faculty and staff are now able to begin rebuilding their homes and lives thanks to the generosity of Xavier parents.

xshop-home2.jpgThose most affected, as assessed by FACAMPA, were given priority. These survivors were able to replace lost items last Tue, Oct. 13, from 3:00 - 6:00 PM at the HS Pelota Court. Those moderately affected will get their chance today Wed, Oct. 14, followed by members of the school’s service agencies on Thu, Oct. 15. The last day of XShop operations is on Fri Oct. 16, when it will be open to everybody.

Fr. Go, upon receiving the profuse thanks from the affected faculty and staff, said that this display of solidarity and generosity in the community was made possible by the many Xavier parents who donated the requested items, as well as the team of parent representatives who sweated it out as they toiled for the XShop Home to offer this service to our faculty and staff.

xshop-home.jpgIn a circular released today, XSPA Chairman Lawrence Cobankiat thanked the parents for their support. He also clarified that, unlike previous operations of XShop which also raised funds for Xavier School’s scholarship fund, this year’s edition concentrates fully on giving assistance to affected members of the school community. The cash proceeds will all go to buying additional needed items not included or lacking in the collection. This was decided by Fr. Go, upon consultation with the leaders among the faculty and staff.

The XShop Home had been always seen as an effective manner and system by which the school is able to provide charity with dignity, and order amidst the flood of needs that emerge from over 500  different faculty and staff in Xavier. For the community’s information, this year’s special “XShop for relief items” will follow these guidelines:

A.      All XShop donations are sold for token prices (i.e. brand new appliances and electronic items at P100 , other household items ranging from P1-50 pesos) with all proceeds to be used to purchase more items that may not have been covered through donations.

B.      All faculty and staff have been grouped by FACAMPA (the Xavier faculty and staff association) according to extent of need to determine their priority of purchase. The ones severely affected get to purchase first and at greater quantity versus those whose extent of need is less.

C.      All donations have been pooled and will be presented anonymously. This supports and maintains the school policy of no direct gift giving between parents and faculty/staff.

D.      Non-Xavier faculty and staff, such as agency workers (e.g. security guards, cleaners, etc.) and coaches are included in those eligible for purchase.

Given these policies, the intent of XShop is to stretch the donation in order to be able to serve more people, in accordance with their needs. For questions and additional concerns, please email xspacoms@gmail.com or call the XSPA office.

It’s nice of the school to have this initiative to help the members of the Xavier family who were hit badly by the flood. :D
