Xaverians Harvest Medals in Math Olympiads

With a total medal tally of 102 medals (16 gold, 27 silver, and 59 bronze), the Philippine Math Team placed second overall during the 5th International Mathematics Contest held in Singapore from August 20 to 24, 2009.

gen8hires1.jpgOut of 557 contestants from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, India and the Philippines, 104 students comprised the RP team, some of whom are Xaverians. Mark Christopher Uy (4A) and Andrew Vince Lee (4C) bagged gold medals, while Sage Javis Co (4C), Luis Salador Diy (4E), Matthew Johann Uy (4F) and Sedrick Scott Keh (4B) won silver medals. Another awardee is Matthew Ryan Tan (5D) who brought home a bronze medal.

ethan-mtg-china-224.JPGIn another feat, Ethan Fredric Tan of 7B, was one of the 46 Filipino delegates who were sent to Tianjin, China for the 2009 China Primary Math Olympiad held last August 9 to 14. Students from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong also participated in the competition. Ethan garnered Third Honors in the Individual Category and was part of the team that won the Best Team Award for the relay competition. Joining him in the team were Jason Hernandez of San Beda, Alabang and Hans Bryan Geremy Ong of Grace Christian College.
