I was nostalgically browsing through the pages of XS website today, August 19, when I came across the sad news of Angie’s passing. You see, Angie was my Math supervisor during my first years as teacher in Xavier. When in 2004 I learned of her retirement (again through the XS website accessed through my classroom computer here in Brownsville, Texas), I felt so saddened by what the Xavier community would be missing. And now, the thought of her death made me even more nostalgic and heartbroken–terribly.

She was always calm and patient even with my kapalpakan as a promdi teacher (I moved to Xavier from Bicol). So understanding and full of suggestions for improvement, she and Norma Sandoval (my science supervisor) were two of the best mentors I’ve ever had. When I moved to Texas in ‘92, I was confident in the belief that I had enough competencies to face the US education system with the guidance I received from Norma and her.

Condolences to her family, and prayers for the repose of her soul.

Thanks, Angie.

This is heart breaking. She was one of the most passionate, understanding, REAL teachers ever.

what i fondly remember of her is her cool demeanor. she was one of those teachers who never got frustrated and never raised her voice despite xavier student’s notorious behavior. always calm and collected, she was a lost to xavier when she retired. with her passing, she is now a lost to the world. thank you for the life you shared with us.

About ten years ago, my math class was spiced up by my math teacher when she came in dressed as a Roman to teach me roman numerals. She made me do all these cool flash cards for the class too. All this lead to a long standing fondness for the maths and sciences.

Rest in peace, Roman. You were always strong-willed, jolly, always ready to brighten up the day.
