Lim Conquers the PJB Youth Quarterly

Winners in the PJB Youth Quarterly

He wanted to win one for Xavier before graduating and he finally got it just as he’s about to leave.

Xavier Bowling Team Captain Carl Matthew Lim (H4F) finally fulfilled one of his major bowling goals, winning the Gold Medal in Majors Division of the 2009 PJB Youth Quarterly Championships by defeating Paolo Darroca of La Salle Greenhills, 177 to 162, last February 15, 2009.   Lim earned the number one seed in the finals by bowling lines of 235, 206, 214, 212, 206 and 212 for a total of 1285 (214 average).

In the match play finals, Lim started slowly, leaving two open frames in the first five frames. The Xavier senior, however, stepped up his play in the second half of the game, closing all frames, including two consecutive strikes and a seemingly impossible spare of the 2-4-10 split to finally finish off his opponent. Another Xaverian, honorary bowling team member, Stewart Ngo, took the bronze medal after bowing to Darroca in the semi-finals, 219 to 214.

This blazing victory by Lim caps off a busy but successful month for the Xavier Bowling Team, who also won medals in the Asian University Bowling Championships, participated in the Bayanihan Tournament, and hosted the very successful 6th Xavier Charity Bowl.

“It’s back to training for us,” shrugged Coach Sharwin Tee. “With Carl leaving us at the end of the school year, the others will definitely have to step up to keep our winning tradition alive.”

The bowling team, which is generously supported by the Alumni Association of Xavier School Bowling Club, is also looking to add to their trophy case by joining the Araw ng Dabao Bowling Classic Open after the 4th quarter exams in March.

consistently play with precision, adequate speed, lift/ turn, definied breakpoint with solid mid-lane recovery into the pocket backed up by a strong balanced finish on the foul line ??? Am just curious.
with the way you describe all of this, would be kind to share your knowledge and expertise, so that we could understand what you are curious about.

It is quite surprising that Bowling being a kind of expensive sport is not that much dominated by Xavier that has a “more than just adequate” financial resources available. Is is because it lacks awareness/ interest among the Xavier Youth? Is there no Xavier Bowling Club ? Sort of a developmental pool prior to getting qualified approved before being a part of Xavier’s Bowling Varsity Team. I believe Bowling is a sport that you can be excellent with it even if you are not naturally born good at it, for as long as there is a good program.

With Bowling Tournaments sanctioned by the Philippine Bowling Congress being held regularly within a calendar year, Wouldn’t it be nice to see or hear a Xavier Youth or Xavier Alumnus “most probably a former Xavier Varsity Player” win a much coveted title like Mr. Markwin Tee (brother of Mr. Sharwin Tee- Coach of XS Varsity Team) .who won the Gold Medal in the SEA GAMESS.

Is there a Xavier undergrad in the school aside from winning occasionally, who can consistently play with precision, adequate speed, lift/ turn, definied breakpoint with solid mid-lane recovery into the pocket backed up by a strong balanced finish on the foul line ??? Am just curious.
