Xavier Keglers Bounce Back, Takes Two Medals in AUBC

Stewart Ngo and Carl Lim winning the bronze medal in the AUBC doubles event

Despite having very little time to prepare, the Xavier Bowling Team put in a good account of themselves, winning a silver and a bronze medal in the 2nd Asian Universities Bowling Championships (AUBC) held recently at the E-Lanes Bowling Center.

The doubles pair of Team Captain Carl Lim and Honorary Team Member Stewart Ngo combined to make up for a bad first day by taking the bronze medal in the doubles event. Then, a couple of days later, Ngo continued his winning ways, defeating two tough opponents to take the silver medal.

The AUBC was originally a tournament for college players only, so Stewart Ngo (in XS jersey) takes home the silver medalthe team didn’t include it in its calendar. However, the tournament organizers decided to include a special high school division and the team was more than willing to participate, despite knowing about the AUBC just two days before the tournament.

“I am very satisfied with the performance of the team,” beamed Coach Sharwin Tee. “I mean, we barely had time to prepare and we still took away a couple of medals.”

With the victory, Coach Tee sees a bright future for the team. “This will certainly invigorate the team, and we look forward to winning more real soon, and to bowling more with Stewart.”

Congratulations Carl Lim, Stewart Ngo and Coach Sharwin Tee.

I know what is a Team Captain but what is an Honorary Team Member ?? Since this was referred to Stewart.

Anyhow, keep up the good work Xavier Bowling Team.

Congratulations to the Xavier Bowling Team for winning the silver and bronze in the AUBC!

Hi, Coach Sharwin Tee! I’m not sure if you still remember me; I used to teach English in Xavier Grade School (Mrs. Jane Cacacho was my batchmate in the English Department), and handled the High School and Grade School Bowling Varsity, too. Your brother Markwin was in that pioneer team. Reading this news made me think back to those days when our Xavier keglers would win medals, too, like your keglers now.

I remember the fun-filled days we had, playing bowling as a team every Friday in Greenlanes and joining MILO-sponsored bowling tournaments in which my boys played against other schools (like Ateneo, La Salle, Lourdes, etc.) and won the championships!

I feel happy that bowling as a sport is still being enjoyed by the Xavier boys, maybe because bowling has always been my family’s one and only sport. I first played it when I was in Grade III, and when I arrived XS as a new teacher, one of the first few things I did to gain friends was to join the faculty bowling team!

Long live bowling, and long live XS Bowling Team!
