Despite having very little time to prepare, the Xavier Bowling Team put in a good account of themselves, winning a silver and a bronze medal in the 2nd Asian Universities Bowling Championships (AUBC) held recently at the E-Lanes Bowling Center.
The doubles pair of Team Captain Carl Lim and Honorary Team Member Stewart Ngo combined to make up for a bad first day by taking the bronze medal in the doubles event. Then, a couple of days later, Ngo continued his winning ways, defeating two tough opponents to take the silver medal.
The AUBC was originally a tournament for college players only, so the team didn’t include it in its calendar. However, the tournament organizers decided to include a special high school division and the team was more than willing to participate, despite knowing about the AUBC just two days before the tournament.
“I am very satisfied with the performance of the team,” beamed Coach Sharwin Tee. “I mean, we barely had time to prepare and we still took away a couple of medals.”
With the victory, Coach Tee sees a bright future for the team. “This will certainly invigorate the team, and we look forward to winning more real soon, and to bowling more with Stewart.”
