Xaverian Receives Singaporean Scholarship

Jordan Russel Teeby Glenn P. Lacon, HS Counselor

Last July 18, 2007, at the Singapore Embassy in Makati City, seven intelligent and hardworking students out of 191 applicants from all over the country were awarded the Singaporean Scholarship. One of the elite seven is Xavier’s very own Jordan Russell D. Tee (XS ’07). He was awarded a 4-year college scholarship at the National University of Singapore where he has decided to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics.

Jordan (2nd from right)For the past nine years, the Singapore Government has been awarding scholarships to qualified and deserving high school graduating students from ASEAN countries like the Philippines and since its inception, 75 Filipino students have been chosen as recipients of the scholarship.

The practice began as Singapore’s contribution to help alleviate the education crisis in the region back in the 90’s and since then, the Singapore Scholarship Program has continued to promote the government’s vision of helping to produce students who can help in their home country’s economic progress.Jordan and the other scholars Thus, scholars, who are selected on the basis of academic merit, leadership qualities, and their potential to contribute to community development in their respective home countries, are all expected and encouraged to return to their home countries upon earning their degrees.

Jordan and the other scholars from Davao Christian High School, PAREF Springdale School Cebu City, UP Diliman, and Ateneo de Manila are sure to make their respective alma maters and their country truly proud.

Congratulations, Jordan! Luceat Lux!
