Summer 2008 Learn-To-Swim, Swim Club and Swim Varsity - A Triple Victory for Xavier

By Coach Remyr T. Angeles

“to be better today than who we were yesterday….”

As the first diver, swimming with all his might, Keane Ting swam valiantly against swimmers double his size and age in the 4 x 50 Stairstep Freestyle Relay during the PCA Swim Meet held last May 31 - June 1, 2008.geoffrey.JPG Trailing by almost a whole lap, his event teammates, Adrian Daniel Chua, Christian Limsui, and Zachary Haw, slowly closed the gap as the crowd roared in utmost awe as our swimmers came from behind, eventually turning the tables on the four veteran teams to win the Gold Medal. A spectacular sight it was, as teammates and coaches of other teams cheered for the Xavier four with much respect and disbelief.

dsc_8251.JPGLike fine dark chocolate, that day was a bittersweet victory for the Xavier Swim Team: Robert Brillantes, Keane Ting, Ethan Chua, Adrian Daniel Chua, Alfred Lim, Christian Limsui, Rydell Ayroso, Geoffrey Que, Zachary Haw, Christopher Limsui, Kevin Ting, Chase Yao, Lanz Chua, Sigmund Ty, Biang Taguibao, and Szion Gan.

One Team, One Mission: Beat their personal best times. And so they all did, swimming their best, as well as beating 32 other teams in the process.chase.JPG At day’s end, the team was only one and a half point shy from the 2nd runner up title in the combined boys and girls overall team championship ranking. A feat it was, considering the tale of the meet: an all-boys Xavier team with 16 members against 465 other swimmers from 35 other veteran teams. Keane Ting, Christopher Limsui and Biang Tabuibao were awarded the trophies for Most Outstanding Swimmers for their respective age groups.grp5.JPG

The two other summer meets last May 17 - 18 and May 24 were equally exciting, bagging for the Xavier Novice Team two overall Championship Trophies, 73 Gold Medals, 44 Silver Medals, 53 Bronze Medals, and 7 Most Outstanding Age Group Swimmer Trophies. The biggest point contributors for the team were John Chantong, Jonathan Chantong, Xiandi Chua, Hannah Massab, Abigail Laurel, Ethan Chua, Robert Brillantes, Watson Chan, Nico Co, Nathan Co, Nicolai Conception, Patrick Galvez, Zarina Haw, Jace Kua, Raissa Chua, Anton Chua, Szion Gan and Michael Cocabo.

To all the Xavier Swimmers this past summer, congratulations to you for a SWIM WELL DONE.
