5th Xavier Charity Bowl Winners

Last February 21, 2008 was another afternoon of great bowling for the Xavier School community, as members of the Xavier family participated in the 5th Xavier Charity bowl, a project of the Xavier Varsity Bowling Team in cooperation with the High School FACAMPA aimed at raising money for the Xavier School Educational Trust Fund (XSETF).

A total of 17 three-person teams participated in the yearly event held in E-Lanes BowlingTeam Big Boys - CHAMPIONS! Center in San Juan and this year, Team Big Boys, composed of Derrick Uy, Freddie Alcaraz and Billy de Castro, bowled a total of 1737 pinfalls to take home the gold medals. Team Laguna Boys, composed of Herbie Garcia, Daryl and Ferris Uy rolled 1590 pinfalls to take second, while last year’s champion, Team “Sweet 300” composed of Samson Balance, Stephen and Stewart Ngo placed third overall.

The afternoon began with a simple opening ceremony led by HS FACAMPA president, Mr. Roberto dela Cruz (HS Science). The ceremonial roll was participated in by the two captain of the Xavier Bowling team, Carl Matthew Lim and Kurt Yu, the HS Principal, Mrs. Jane Cacacho and Mr. dela Cruz.

‘chers and studes’This charity event, however, was more about fun than competitiveness as various students, teachers, parents and staff enjoyed themselves on the bowling lane despite their lack of bowling training. Various fun prizes were also given away for bowlers who hit three strikes in a row or teams who were able to roll a star frame. Moreover, prizes were also given to bowlers who were able to roll 200 games.

Guest bowler, Billy dela Cruz bagged the Highest Average in the Men’s Division while Ms. Anne Salinel of the XACOOP won the same award in the Ladies’ Division. Highest games were awarded to Mr. Noel Calamungay of the Xavier Infirmary and Ms. Joanne Pusta of the HS Guidance Department.

“We’re very happy with the turnout and we, as a team, plan on doing this every year for this (XSETF) noble cause,” said Sharwin Tee, coach of the Xavier Bowling Team.Fraction of the Xavier Bowling Team

The event would not have been possible without the event’s sponsors, Primex INVE Nutrition, Ortigas Company, Anden Corporation and Visonary Bowling Balls, as well as its donors Philippines Blue Rock Aggregates, Circle Transport Corporation, Citadel Inn, Makati, Ms. Deanna Gobio, Dr. and Mrs. Mark Richard Kho, Jadeant Company, Mr. Peter Martin Gomez, Timothy Hung, and Universal Robina Corporation.
