On the occasion of the 4th centenary of Matteo Ricci’s death, the Jesuit Chinese-Filipino apostolate is organizing a pilgrimage to key sites in the Jesuit mission in China, in October 2010. Ricci, born the same year that St Francis Xavier died on the island of Shangchuan, was the most eminent Jesuit missionary to China. He began his missionary work in Macao and slowly made his way north until he gained access to the Ming emperor in Beijing and secured a place for Christianity in China. He died in Beijing in 1610 and was buried with imperial honors.

As part of the efforts of the Archives Office to continue its development, Mrs. Yolanda Granda, educator and expert in the field, was invited for a day-long visit last January 27, 2010. Her expert advice, given in a refreshing and forthright manner, and culled from years of experience, was very warmly received by the Archives personnel.
After the professional sharing, she also visited the ILRC and was given a warm welcome by her former UP students, ILRC Coordinator Ruth de Luna and librarian Reagan Austria.
Mrs. Granda is a practicing archivist, a former president of the Society of Filipino Archivists, and is presently a senior lecturer (Archives Administration) in the UP School of Library and Information Science.
