Xaverians receive high honors

Congratulations to two Xaverians, former Sec. Arthur Yap (’83) and Amb. Francis Chua (’67), who were honored recently by Malacanang. Arthur Yap was conferred the Order of Lakandula with Rank of Grand Cross  (Bayani), alongside other current and former cabinet secretaries.  In the same ceremony, the President conferred the Order of Sikatuna with rank of Lakan to Francis Chua, chairman emeritus of the Philippine Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Both Arthur and Francis were active in the AAXS during the terms of past presidents Ruben Tan (’73) and Rudy Ang (’79), serving as vice president and batch representive, respectively.

Neil Bernardo (’06) graduates from USC magna cum laude

The Coffee Prince

Before he opened a chain of Japanese coffee shops in the Philippines, Hubert Young lived abroad. At one time, he worked for a coffee company in the United States. He is also passionate about food and Japanese culture, “I’ve always been inspired by the way the Japanese do things,” Young said. “They have the ability to turn a simple product into something trendy and sophisticated.” Read the rest of this entry »

UP Team with Raymund Li (05) Wins Top Prize in CFA Global Investment Research Challenge

The UP CBA team composed of 5th year BS Business Administration & Accountancy (BS BAA) including Xavier alumnus Raymund Siegfrid LIi from Class 2005, and fellow students Pamela Li, Jose Mari Punzalan, Rachelle Denise Sison, and Choerleen Bianca Solema won the Global  Championship at the 2010 Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute “4th Global Investment Research Challenge (GIRC)” held last April 17, 2010 at the Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel & Towers in Hong Kong. Bang Tongco (06) Receives Military Merit Medal

Tongco (Batch 2006) was awarded the Military Merit Medal for meritorious and valuable services rendered during the conduct of Relief Operations and Clean-up Drive, dubbed “Ateneo Task Force Ondoy,” from 27 September – 01 October  2009.
